This week’s “Book of the Week is How to Catch a Witch by Alice Walstead! This is a face-passed book with goblins, ghouls, and all the spooky creatures that come out on Halloween. The witch opens a portal that lets out all of the Halloween creatures. Follow along with the characters to see if they can catch the witch!
Here are some of our favorite vocabulary words to practice while reading this Halloween story: ghoul, web, trap, goblin, and catch.
This book is hilariously chaotic and can target so many language skills! You and your child can practice comparing/contrasting the characters in the story, categorization, yes/no questions, wh-questions, and sequencing.
Another favorite activity we do during our speech sessions is going on a witch hunt! Our clients sequence a plan to sneak up on witches, goblins, and ghouls, and we act it out. This is a fun movement activity that compliments the story.
