Our first “Book of the Week” is The Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman!
This is one of our favorite books! It is a fun, poetic story about one sleepy bear and his animal friends. Different animals and birds find their way out of the cold and into Bear's cave to warm up. But even after the tea has been brewed and the corn has been popped, Bear just snores on!
Here are some of our favorite vocabulary words to practice while reading this fun story: Freeze, sneak, munch, share, lair, and snore!
Here are some of our favorite activities to practice while reading the book: Rhyming words, sequencing, and action words!
This book has so many rhyming words to practice that allows for many opportunities to talk about word families and phonological awareness.
Once you’ve read the book, you can let your child retell the story of which animals came into the bear’s cave first, second, and third! You can let your child look at the pictures for help. This is an excellent activity for sequencing and practicing generating sentences.
Lastly, we love to practice our action words with this book! Charades is a great movement activity to help your child learn different verbs. After practicing your rhyming and sequencing skills, get up and play some charades to practice your new action words!
